About Us

Founded in 1960, Troop 89 is one of the oldest troops in the Austin area.  We are chartered by the St. Louis Home and School Association at St. Louis Catholic Church.  Troop 89 regularly sends a contingent of scouts and adults on high adventure backpacking trips to Philmont Scout Ranch.  Our scouts enjoy canoeing on lakes and rivers and rifle and shotgun shooting.  We seek variety in our camping experiences, including car camping, backpacking, swimming, cook-offs, and summer camp trips.  We attend Camporee every year, participating in a fun day of tests of Scout skills.  We also attend WEBELOS Expo, spending a day teaching WEBELOS Scouts about Boy Scouting.  We meet weekly and camp monthly during the school year.

We are a medium-sized troop, averaging about thirty to forty scouts.  Like most troops, we change youth leaders every six months.  This means we have lots of opportunity for leadership positions and training.  If you want a leadership position, you will probably get one.  As a result of this, we have a high proportion of scouts who earn the Eagle rank, the highest rank in scouting.

We meet on Tuesday evenings at 7:00PM at St. Louis Catholic Church at 7601 Burnet Road.
